Texas sophomore center Will Baker to transfer

By JACOB POLACHECK

University of Texas sophomore big Will Baker has elected to transfer, the school announced Saturday.

Baker, a 6-foot-11, 240-pound center from Austin, TX, averaged 2.1 points and 1.9 rebounds in 23 games last year as a freshman. He averaged 8.3 minutes per game.

“We are very grateful for Will’s contributions to our basketball program,” head coach Shaka Smart said. “We wish Will all the best as he pursues his next opportunity.”

Baker grabbed a career-best seven rebounds at Iowa State (Feb. 15, 2020) and posted a career-high 20 points (8-12 FG, 4-6 threes) in a career-best 26 minutes during the home win against TCU (Feb. 19, 2020).

He did not play in Wednesday’s season-opening win against UTRGV.
