With offers reaching the double-digits, Jaylen Martin is becoming a high-major prospect in the Class of 2022.
The 6-foot-5, 185-pound small forward from Florida State (FL) University School, says that Georgetown, Florida and Ole Miss are in contact the most.
Georgetown: “I just recently had a Zoom with them (Nov. 18). They want me to come in as a freshman and start right away. They’re recruiting me to be an impact player for their offense. The way they run their offense is set up for their wings and guards to score the ball and run in transition.”
Florida: “It’s pretty much the same thing. They’re saying how they like my offensive game and think I could fit great in their offensive system.”
Ole Miss: “They’re just saying how they think my game is perfect for their offense. I could come in and be an impact player right away.”
Martin also holds offers from Florida Gulf Coast, Virginia Tech, IUPUI, TCU, USF, Little Rock and Stetson.
He is also receiving interest from Maryland, Houston, Vanderbilt, Auburn and Yale, among others.
Ranked by 247Sports.com as the No. 31 small forward and No. 140 overall prospect in the Class of 2022, Martin describes himself as a ‘very elite scorer’.
“I can score off the dribble,” he said. “I can pull up and shoot the three. Most of my game has to do with scoring.
“On the defensive end, I’m a pretty solid defender. I rebound a lot and contest shots at the rim.”
Through two games this season, Martin is averaging 17 points and 10 rebounds per game.
“I’m trying to average 20 [points] and 10 [rebounds] this season,” he said. “I’m trying to win conference player of the year and be First-Team All-State.
“Last year, I made the Second-Team. As a team, we’re looking to win a state championship.”
With a 4.1 GPA, Martin says education is a primary factor he is taking into consideration when evaluating his college options.
“I’m looking at what school can fit my major and things like that,” he said. “I’m not 100 percent sure, but I’m looking at majoring in athletic training.
“Another factor is their roster, how they run their offense,” he said. “I’m looking at how my playing style can fit into what the coaches are running.”
In terms of a timetable, Martin says he will ‘probably’ cut his list after the summer.
“I’ll probably make my decision around this time next year,” he said.
