Missouri commit Sean Durugordon talks decision to enroll early

By JACOB POLACHECK

After committing on Aug. 26, Class of 2021 shooting guard Sean Durugordon will enroll at the University of Missouri in January.

He broke down his decision to enroll early in a Zoom Interview with ZAGSBLOG Sunday evening.

“I actually made the decision pretty recently,” Durugordon said. “I was just thinking a lot about it with my family and stuff like that. My goal has always been to make the NBA as soon as possible and although I’ll be redshirting the remainder of the season, I just felt like getting there as soon as possible will help me develop my game, improve, get stronger and faster with all the great resources they have there.”

The 6-foot-7, 215-pound wing prospect from Putnam Science (CT) Academy, will redshirt the 2020-21 season before playing in the 2021-22 season.

Durugordon said he also hopes that his early enrollment will lead to playing time as a freshman.

“Come fall of 2021, I’ll be ready to go as a freshman, probably get a lot of minutes given that I will have been there for five or six months, learning everything, my body is specifically prepared,” he said. “I just felt like it would put me in a better position to get a lot of minutes as a freshman which will help me be able to showcase my ability from the jump once I get there and start playing.”

Durugordon is part of a Mizzou 2021 class that Anton Brookshire, Yaya Keita, Trevon Brazile and Kaleb Brown.

“We have a group chat, we’ve been talking and stuff like that,” Durugordon said. “I personally think that this class is really, really good. We’re really underrated, but I feel like we’re going to make some noise at Mizzou.

“We’re going to build a solid foundation there, really make some noise in the SEC. Once we come in, I feel like we’re all really talented and we can make an impact, all us freshmen, so I’m looking forward to it.”

Ranked by 247Sports.com as the No. 40 small forward in the Class of 2021, Durugordon describes himself as a ‘really unselfish player’.

” I like to get my teammates involved. I don’t really like to force shots. I let my game come to me naturally. [I’m a] really good teammate. I’m a guy that can create for myself, create for others. I’m a good off-the dribble shooter. I have a really quick first step and I can get to the rim, finish with contact well. I’m a solid three-point shooter.

“Defensively, I really try and take pride in that. I’m a guy that will guard the best player. I’m a really good rebounder. I personally think that I’m probably the best offensive rebounder in the country.”
