Virginia lands Class of 2021 New Zealand wing Taine Murray

By JACOB POLACHECK

Class of 2021 wing Taine Murray, out of Auckland (NZL) Rosmini College, has committed to Virginia, per 247Sports.com.

Murray, a 6-foot-4, 190-pound wing, chose Virginia over Maryland and Stanford.

He is the first commit in Virginia’s 2021 class.

Virginia has landed multiple international prospects in recent years including Argentinian big Francisco Caffaro, as well as Australian prospects Kody Stattmann and Jack Salt.

Murray played this past season for the Auckland Huskies in the professional NZNBL, but refused payment in order to maintain his college eligibility.

In 10 games played, Murray averaged 17.5 points on 44 percent from three-point range before a season-ending hand injury.
