Jacobi Wright pledges to South Carolina

By ADAM ZAGORIA

Jacobi Wright is staying home.

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound point guard from Legacy Charter (S.C.) committed to South Carolina on Sunday, for the Class of 2021, he told ZAGSBLOG.

“I feel like it’s the all-around best fit for me,” he said. “I feel like that’s somewhere where I can develop my game and just keep getting better as a player and a person. And I really like the coaching staff, how they push their players, coach Frank Martin and coach Bruce [Shingler]. I have really good relationships with them.”

He also considered Winthrop and UNC-Charlotte, while Virginia and Virginia Tech showed interest.

“[I’ll be] just an all-around point guard, just somebody who can do whatever the coaches ask me to do,” he said. “And that’s what my job will be, whatever they ask me to do. Bring some leadership to the team, be vocal, somebody who tries to bring wins to the team.”

The Gamecocks return several point guards, including freshman Trae Hannibal, sophomore Jermaine Couisnard and redshirt freshman T.J. Moss.

He joins shooting guard Devin Carter in South Carolina’s 2021 class.
