New Jersey guard Zion Cruz transferring to Oak Hill Academy

By ADAM ZAGORIA

Zion Cruz, ranked the No. 5 shooting guard in the Class of 2022 by 247Sports.com, announced Friday he will transfer to national powerhouse Oak Hill Academy (VA) from Hudson (N.J.) Catholic.

“All journeys are not the same, my journey is DIFFERENT,” Cruz wrote on Instagram.

Cruz is friendly with Dior Johnson, the No. 1 point guard in the Class of 2022. Johnson, formerly from Mayfair (CA), is headed to Oak Hill and is committed to Syracuse.

“Dion and Zion are perimeter players who can make a difference at the elite high school level,” legendary Oak Hill coach Steve Smith said.

Oak Hill has produced a slew of big-name players, including Carmelo Anthony and Rajon Rondo and, most recently, New York City products Cole Anthony and Kofi Cockburn, both of whom declared for the NBA Draft after one-and-done seasons at North Carolina and Illinois, respectively.
