California landed a commitment from Penn grad transfer Ryan Betley on Monday, he announced via Twitter.
He also received interest from schools such as Stanford, Vanderbilt, Arizona, Oregon State, VCU, Colorado State, USC and Utah State.
Betley qualified for an extra year of eligibility due to a season-ending injury in his junior season, but his last season was not going to be played at Penn due to the strict four-year rule for student-athletes in the Ivy League.
Before his injury, Betley was averaging 11.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.3 blocks per game in 22 games played.
Betley had the the best year of his career as a sophomore during the 2017-18 season in which he averaged 14.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.4 blocks per game in 33 games played.
He joins three-stars Monty Bowser and Jalen Celestine as the third commit in the Golden Bears 2020 class.
Sophomore Matt Bradley and freshman Joel Brown (2.4 points per game) are the only guards slated to return from last year’s backcourt rotation.
