Malik Martin to Rhode Island

By ADAM ZAGORIA

Malik Martin, the 6-foot-5, 205-pound Charlotte transfer, has committed to Rhode Island, he told ZAGSBLOG.

Martin, the younger brother of former Rhode Island forward Hassan Martin, averaged 9.0 points and 3.6 rebounds last season at Charlotte and will fill a need on the wing at Rhody. He will sit the 2020-21 season and then have two years of eligibility.

“I chose Rhode Island because they made me feel like family throughout this process and I felt like I can come in and make an immediate impact,” the Staten Island, N.Y. native said.

Martin’s commitment caps a huge day for head coach David Cox, who earlier added the Mitchell twins from Maryland, who will suit up in December.

On Friday, Rhody added 6-9 forward Abou Ousmane to fill out a three-man high school class.

Rhody finished 21-9, 13-5 in the A-10 last season.
