Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte told the Austin American-Statesmen that Shaka Smart will return as the head coach next year.
“Shaka’s our coach. Nothing’s changed. We won five of the last six down the stretch, finished third in the conference. We have a good team coming back. Nothing’s changed on my end,” Del Conte told the American-Statesman.
Smart’s buyout would have cost a reported $10 million.
In five seasons at Texas, Smart holds a record of 90-78. The Longhorns missed the NCAA tournament in two out of the four years and were on the bubble this year.
This could serve well for Texas as they are in the running for five-star Greg Brown who recently announced he’s committing in April.
