Rutgers, Arizona State on hand as Cliff Omoruyi drops first triple-double with blocks at Slam Dunk to the Beach

By ADAM ZAGORIA

Karl Hobbs of Rutgers and Rashon Burno of Arizona State were among those on hand on Sunday when Cliff Omoruyi made history at the Slam Dunk to the Beach tournament in Delaware.

The 6-foot-11 senior notched a triple-double with 17 points, 19 rebounds and 11 blocks in Roselle Catholic’s 65-58 win over First Love Christian. It was the first triple-double including blocks at the prestigious event.

Xavier-bound guard C.J. Wilcher went for 26 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists in the win.

Georgetown head man Patrick Ewing was also on hand.

Ranked the No. 8 center nationally by 247Sports.com, Omoruyi recently trimmed his list to eight schools from 13.

He is now listing Memphis, Kentucky, Arizona State, UConn, Miami, Auburn, Rutgers and N.C. State.

Omoruyi took an official visit to Auburn Sept. 13 and plans to commit in the spring. He has also seen Arizona State (at Princeton) and been to several Rutgers games, including their 20-point blowout of Seton Hall at the RAC.

A native of Nigeria who has only been playing organized basketball for a few years, Omoruyi has drawn comparisons to Clint Capela and Mitchell Robinson. Omoruyi was the most dominant big man in New Jersey last season. He and Kentucky’sWhitney and Temple’s Josh Pierre-Louis helped lead the Lions to the Non-Public B state title game, where they fell to Bryan Antoine, Scottie Lewis and Ranney.
