NCAA upholds 12-game suspension for Memphis freshman James Wiseman

By ADAM ZAGORIA

The NCAA has upheld the 12-game suspension and $11,500 donation to charity for Memphis freshman James Wiseman, who must sit until Jan. 12 at South Florida.

“This morning, the NCAA’s Committee on Student-Athlete Reinstatement upheld the conditions of reinstatement for men’s basketball student-athlete James Wiseman, who will be eligible to return to competition Jan. 12,” the school said in a statement.  “Although disappointing, we look forward to a promising season.”

The 7-foot-1 Wiseman is the projected No. 1 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, per ESPN.com.

Memphis’ odds to win the NCAA title are now at 20/1 after previously being at 40/1 as a result of Wiseman’s impending return.

No. 16 Memphis is currently 5-1.
