Kansas lands JUCO prospect Tyon Grant-Foster

By JACOB POLACHECK

Tyon Grant-Foster, the 6-foot-7 shooting guard from Ottumwa (IA) Indian Hills, announced his commitment to Kansas on Monday, via Twitter.

Grant-Foster took a visit to Kansas this past weekend (Oct. 11-13).

“Me talking with my family and me feeling like Kansas is the best fit for me is why I committed,” Grant-Foster told Rivals.com. “I feel like I can go there and make an instant impact and they can help me get to the next level. Playing for a hall of fame coach like Coach (BillSelf, he can help teach me the right things to make the next step.”

Grant-Foster is the first commit in the Jayhawks’ 2020 class. He chose Kansas over schools such as Arkansas, Georgia, Iowa State, Kansas State, LSU, Miami (FL), Mississippi, Oklahoma State, Oregon, SMU, St. John’s, Texas A&M, Virginia Tech, and others

He is the first recruit to commit to Kansas since the school was charged with lack of institutional control, three Level 1 violations in men’s basketball and a head coach responsibility charge against coach Bill Self in September.

Playing in 32 games last season for Ottumwa Indian Hills, Grant-Foster averaged 8.2 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. He shot 37.4 percent from the field and 27.4 percent from behind the arc.
