Big man Cliff Omoruyi enjoys Auburn visit, TCU up next

By ADAM ZAGORIA

Cliff Omoruyi, the 6-foot-11, 237-pound Class of 2020 big man from Roselle (N.J.), took his first official visit to Auburn this weekend and took in the football team’s 55-16 destruction of Kent State.

He then returned home in time for his open gym on Sunday morning at his high school.

“It was great,” he said of the visit. “I liked everything, the academics, everything.” Of the football game, he said, “It was fun.”

Omoruyi said of Auburn, ‘They’re in my top schools.”

Auburn is looking for Omoruyi to slide into the frontcourt next season.

“They got two bigs now, one of them is going to graduate next year,” he said.

As of now, he has an official visit set for TCU next weekend.

Kentucky, Pittsburgh, UConn, Louisville, Miami, Rutgers, South Carolina, Temple, St. John’s and Arizona State are also involved.

Omoruyi is a high-motor dunking machine who is still developing his face-up game. He plays at the same high school that produced Isaiah Briscoe (Kentucky), Tyler Roberson (Syracuse), Naz Reid (LSU) and Kahlil Whitney (Kentucky).

A native of Nigeria who has only been playing organized basketball for a few years, Omoruyi has drawn comparisons to Clint Capela and Mitchell Robinson. Omoruyi was the most dominant big man in New Jersey last season. He and Whitney and Temple’s Josh Pierre-Louis helped lead the Lions to the Non-Public B state title game, where they fell to Bryan Antoine, Scottie Lewis and Ranney.
