UConn coach Dan Hurley recovering after surgical procedure

UConn head basketball coach Dan Hurley underwent a successful surgical procedure Friday to relieve persistent neck and upper back discomfort and is resting comfortably, the school announced in a release. He is expected to be released from the hospital within the next day or two and will continue to recuperate at home.

Surgery was deemed to be the best course of treatment for Coach Hurley to alleviate symptoms of degenerative changes in the cervical spine. The recovery period is not expected to affect his participation in the Huskies’ official practices, which begin on Sept. 28, as they prepare for the upcoming 2019-20 season.

The surgery was performed by Dr. Roger Hartl and his team at the Center for Comprehensive Spine Care in New York City.

Coach Hurley’s recuperation will be monitored by his personal physicians and the UConn medical staff and he will resume all normal basketball coaching and recruiting activities as soon as he has sufficiently recovered. In his absence, team activities will continue under his coaching staff.
