Virginia fans holding out hope that the 2019 Final Four Most Outstanding Player would return for his senior season got their answer Monday when junior guard Kyle Guy announced on Twitter he will remain in the 2019 NBA Draft.
“Saying goodbye twice is not easy,” Guy wrote. “Charlottesville I just want to say thank you so much. I’ll never forget this. One day I will have the words. I am officially keeping my name in the draft. I know it’s the right step after much prayer and thought with my family #NoParachute.”

Virginia coach Tony Bennett wished Guy luck in the next phase of his career.
“Kyle had a remarkable three-year career at the University of Virginia,” said Bennett in a statement. “He has been a model teammate and student-athlete, and we obviously respect his decision to remain in the draft. I loved coaching him, watching him develop and turn into a terrific young man. We’re excited for Kyle and his family, and wish him nothing but the best at the next level.”
Like the 2018 national champions, Villanova, Virginia had four players declare for the NBA Draft after a title-winning season. Joining Guy in the draft are redshirt sophomore guard De’Andre Hunter, junior guard Ty Jerome and redshirt forward Mamadi Diakite.
Diakite is still considering a return to the Cavaliers while Hunter and Jerome will stay in the draft.
