Seton Hall adds Canisius transfer Takal Molson

By ADAM ZAGORIA

While St. John’s is bumbling its way through a coaching search, Seton Hall is quietly adding players.

The Pirates on Wednesday landed a pledge from Canisius transfer Takal Molson, a 6-foot-5 guard from Buffalo who averaged 16.9 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.0 assists last season en route to first-team All-MAAC honors.

Recruited by assistant Duane Woodward, he will sit one season to play two.

“I’m more comfortable being a combo guard,” he told the Asbury Park Press. “I can play anywhere on the floor. I’m pretty sure I can guard one through four. I would say my game is toughness, physicality, doing anything to win.”

Molson, who was the 2017-18 MAAC Rookie of the Year, increased his scoring average, rebounding average, and free throw percentage in his second season with the Golden Griffins. He scored in double figures in 28-of-30 games this season, including a career- and season-high 28 points against Niagara on February 27. During league play, Molson was third in the MAAC in scoring at 17.3 points per game and 10th in rebounding at 5.9.

He will add some firepower after Myles Powell leaves the scene in South Orange. Powell is testing the NBA Draft process and could return to a loaded 2019-20 roster.
