Kansas freshman guard Devon Dotson announced Friday on Twitter that he intends to enter the NBA Draft process.
Dana Dotson, Devon’s father, told ZAGSBLOG his son plans to hire an agent. But under new rules, he could still return to campus.
“After careful consideration with my family and coaches, I have decided to test the waters and enter into the 2019 NBA Draft process,” said Dotson in a statement released via Twitter. “I feel it’s a great opportunity to obtain feedback from NBA personnel to make fully informed decisions regarding my basketball future. Based on the new rules, I will hire an agent and move forward while retaining my college eligibility. I would like to thank God, my family, coach Self, the entire coaching staff, and teammates along with the fans of the University of Kansas for their continued support. #RockChalk”

In his season with the Jayhawks, Dotson averaged 12.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.4 steals per game. Dotson was named to the All-Big 12 Third Team and All-Big 12 Freshman Team.
“Devon had a great freshman season that probably put him ahead of schedule of where we thought he would be at this juncture of his career,” Self said.
Dotson is the fifth JayHawk to announce his departure from the team this offseason. He joins junior forward Dedric Lawson and freshman guard Quentin Grimes who previously declared the for NBA Draft, and sophomore guards Charlie Moore and K.J. Lawson who will transfer.
Dotson is currently ranked the No. 72 prospect in the 2019 NBA Draft by ESPN.
KU currently has two commits in the 2019 class with four-stars Issac McBride and Christian Braun. They are also in the running for McDonald’s All-Americans Matthew Hurt and Precious Achiuwa, as well as four-star shooting guard Cassius Stanley.
Hurt will choose between a list of elite schools in Duke, North Carolina, Kentucky, Kansas, Memphis and Minnesota, when he makes his college decision on April 19.
Achiuwa has a list of schools on his trail in Kansas, North Carolina, Memphis, and Georgia, among others.
Stanley will choose between Kansas, UCLA, and Oregon later this month.
