WASHINGTON — Fred Hoiberg has finalized a seven-year, $25-million deal to become the new head coach at Nebraska.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported the contract figures.

Hoiberg, 46, is a native of Ames, Neb., who has been linked to the Big Ten job for some time. Nebraska fired Tim Miles on Tuesday.
Since being fired by the Chicago Bulls in December after a 5-19 start to the season, Hoiberg has also been linked to the UCLA opening. He previously coached Iowa State from 2010-15, making four NCAA Tournament appearances.
Chris Heady of Omaha.com and Jeff Goodman of Stadium both reported the deal was done.

Meantime, St. John’s assistant Matt Abdelmassih is expected to leave the Big East school to re-join his old boss at Nebraska, but an announcement isn’t expected until Sunday or Monday, sources said. Abdelmassih has been the lead recruiter under head coach Chris Mullin, and is responsible for assembling most of the team that made its first NCAA Tournament since 2015.
Nebraska finished the 2018-19 season with a 19-17 record, losing seven straight in January and 11 of its final 14 games of the regular season. With two wins in the Big Ten tournament, Nebraska secured a spot in the NIT, before falling in the second round to TCU.
