Kassoum Yakwe’s career is over at UConn

UConn announced Thursday that graduate student forward Kassoum Yakwe will undergo season-ending surgery on Friday to repair a fracture of his right foot, officially ending his college basketball career.

Yakwe’s injury has not responded to treatment and rehab as the UConn medical staff had hoped and surgery has been deemed the best course of treatment moving forward.

Yakwe, who came to UConn this season after a three-year career at St. John’s, played in 13 games with the Huskies, averaging 1.8 points, 2.4 rebounds and shooting 50.0 percent overall in 10.9 minutes per game.

UConn is 13-12, 4-8 in the American.
