Kansas has won at least a share of the Big 12 title for 14 straight years — the longest streak in Division 1 history — but that streak is in real jeopardy at this point.
With Tuesday’s 74-67 loss at Kansas State, the No. 13 Jayhawks fell to 6-4 in the Big 12. They stand in fourth place behind Kansas State, Baylor and Iowa State.
Kansas (17-6, 6-4) has lost three of its last four and is now 1-6 in true road games this season.
“We shouldn’t even be concerned about a damn race right now,” Kansas coach Bill Self said of the Big 12 standings. “We should just be concerned about trying to win a game and playing the right way and having freshmen grow up and having some leadership and things like that that obviously was lacking today.
“Are we in a great position to win the league? No. Do we deserve to be in a great position? Absolutely not. Can we flip the switch ? It remains to be seen. But we just gotta try to get better and win a game on Saturday.”
