After trading Kristaps Porzingis to the Dallas Mavericks last week, the Knicks are “not in position to do a deal right now” for Anthony Davis, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski said Monday night on SportsCenter.
If the Knicks land the No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft — which is expected to be Duke’s Zion Williamson — they could potentially be in mix to acquire Davis.
“They might be in the spring if they get the No. 1 pick,” Woj said on ESPN.
The Knicks own the NBA’s worst record at 10-42 and have a 14 percent at the No. 1 pick, the same odds as Phoenix and Cleveland.

Davis is willing to sign a long-term deal with a handful of teams, including the Knicks, Lakers, Bucks and Clippers, but not the Celtics, Woj reported.
“The Bucks are the best team in the East, the Clippers are a potential team in the West that could be real active in free agency this summer but neither team right has the kind of assets needed to do a deal for Anthony Davis,” Woj said.
“The focus for Rich Paul and for Davis is still getting to the Lakers here in the short term but the door is open elsewhere except in Boston,” Woj said. The Celtics can’t trade for Davis until July 1.

Meantime, Lakers President Magic Johnson and Pelicans GM Dell Demps spoke twice Monday about a Lakers-Pelicans trade, Woj reported, with the Lakers offering Brandon Ingram, Kyle Kuzma, Lonzo Ball, two first-round picks and cap relief in the form of taking on Solomon Hill’s contract.
Elsewhere in Laker-land, LaVar Ball told ESPN that he would want his son Lonzo Ball deal to Phoenix if he’s traded by the Lakers.
“We want to be in L.A,” LaVar told ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk. “But if he’s traded, I don’t want Lonzo in New Orleans. Phoenix is the best fit for him. And I am going to speak it into existence.”
