Akok Akok, who withdrew from Putnam Science (CT) in December and then committed to UConn, will enroll at the school next week and begin practicing with the team but not play games, a source told ZAGSBLOG.
Because he is one year removed from his graduating class, the 6-foot-10 Akok is eligible for the 2019 NBA Draft, but chose to enroll at UConn instead. He is expected to begin playing during the 2019-20 season.
Akok chose UConn over Georgetown, Providence, Pittsburgh and Syracuse.
“They said I could come in and be a big contributor,” he said last month, “and that I could change the team and bring the team different places and help them win a national championship.”
The Huskies are 10-7 in Hurley’s first season at the helm after losing to Cincinnati, 74-72, on Saturday.
