D.J. Steward, the 6-foot-1 point guard from Whitney Young (IL), told ZAGSBLOG Sunday that he is hoping to plan visits to Illinois and Louisville. He spoke about each school:
Illinois: “It’s an in-state school, so they are pushing really hard to get me. They’ve been on since summer after my freshman year of high school. They want me to come in and try to rebuild!”
Louisville: “They have also been on me for a while. Their assistant coach was the assistant at Xavier. He recruited me from there, so when he got over to Louisville, he started recruiting me right away. I also like how Louisville plays fast and with tempo.”
Steward says he is not sure when he would like to take those visits, but “hopefully before the AAU season starts up”.
According to 247Sports, Steward is ranked as the No. 110 overall player in the Class of 2020 and the No. 3 player from the state of Illinois. He broke down what he’s looking for in a school.
Steward holds offers from schools such as Illinois, Louisville, Creighton, DePaul, Florida, Georgia Tech, Marquette, Saint Louis, and UAB, among others.
“I’m looking for a school that fits my play style,” said Steward. “I’m looking for somewhere where I have a great relationship with the coaches and teammates, and where I could come in and contribute right away.”
