One day after landing New York City guard Dashawn Davis, Seton Hall went to Canada to land its second Class of 2019 recruit.
Tyrese Samuel, the 6-foot-8 power forward from Orangeville Prep (Ontario), committed to the Pirates on Tuesday. Samuel visited Seton Hall Nov. 2 and also took official visits to Wake Forest (Sept. 7) and Pittsburgh (Nov. 9).
“I will be continuing my athletic and academic career at Seton Hall,” he Tweeted.
Seton Hall assistant Duane Woodward gets the assist on the Samuel commitment.
Samuel averaged 7.8 points and 8.0 rebounds in June when the Canadian U18 team reached the gold-medal game of the FIBA U18 Americas Championship. He went for 13 points and 11 rebounds in the gold-medal game, a 113-75 USA win.
“Tyrese is a wonderful kid,” Canadian U18 coach Dave Smart told ZAGSBLOG. “He’s respectful and he wants to please. He has great potential to be a stretch 4 who can impact the game from the perimeter and in the post. As he develops he should be a match up nightmare on the offensive end, and defensively his length and ability to move at his size gives him the potential to be a high level defender as well.”

Tony McIntyre, the father of former Syracuse and NBA guard Tyler Ennis, coaches Samuel at Orangeville Prep.
“Tyrese has a unique skill set that allows for a team to use him on the wing or in the post,” he said. “He has NBA athleticism and will be a immediate impact to Seton Hall.”
