Freshmen Zion Williamson and R.J. Barrett combined for 52 point as Duke routed CIAA champion Virginia Union 106-64 in an exhibition game Tuesday evening in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
The 6-foot-7, 285-pound Williamson scored 29 points on 11-of-13 shooting from the field, whilBarrett poured in 23 points—19 of which came in the first half. Earlier Tuesday, the 6-7 Barrett was named to the AP Preseason All-America Team. He is the projected No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft.
Fellow freshman Cam Reddish, who, like Williamson, is a projected lottery pick, added 13 points. Jack White scored 11 and Alex O’Connell 10.

After a tight first few minutes, Duke reeled off a 25-9 run, which was highlighted by a pair of three pointers each from Barrett and Reddish to make it 35-19 with 7:10 remaining in the first half. The Blue Devils cruised into the locker room with a 52-36 lead at intermission.
Duke outscored the visitors 54-28 in the second period, shooting 66 percent (21-of-32) from the field to seal the exhibition win. The Blue Devils finished at a 58 percent (40-of-69) from the floor, assisting on 33 of their 40 made field goals.Jones led with a game-high nine assists, while Reddish had seven. In addition to shooting 11-of-13 from the field, Williamson was 7-of-7 at the free throw, added six rebounds, four assists, two blocks and one steal.
Duke rounds out exhibition play Saturday, Oct. 27 when the Blue Devils welcome Ferris State to Cameron Indoor Stadium. The contest is set for a 4 p.m. tipoff and will be broadcasted on ACC Network Extra.
