Tyson Etienne, the 6-foot-3, 186-pound shooting guard from Long Island Lutheran (N.Y.) and the PSA Cardinals, committed to Wichita State on Saturday night.
He also considered Oklahoma, VCU, Seton Hall, Minnesota and St. John’s.

Etienne averaged 7.4 points and 2.1 rebounds while playing alongside guards Cole Anthony and Joe Toussaint with the PSA Cardinals.
“I have the ability to score the ball, but I also feel like I’m a point guard, it’s really whatever my team needs me to be,” Etienne told The Wichita Eagle. “If we need scoring, then I can go off ball and get my shots. If you need me to facilitate, then I can go through the pick-and-roll and throw the pocket pass, throw the skip pass.”
He joins point guard Noah Fernandes and power forward DeAntoni Gordon in Wichita State’s 2019 class.
“You look at Fred VanVleet and Ron Baker and Landry Shamet and Cleanthony Early and all of those guys weren’t recruited super high and I feel like I’m not recruited super high,” Etienne told the Eagle. “Those guys came in underrated and had that chip on their shoulder with something to prove and I can definitely see how those players thrive under coach [Gregg] Marshall. It’s a good thing knowing those guys came in and made their dreams into a reality.”
Said PSA Cardinals coach Isaac Green: “Tyson is a guy who loves the process and daily grind. He is going to compete and challenge his teammates to raise their level of play daily.”
Added Long Island Lutheran coach John Buck: “Tyson is the ultimate competitor and hard worker. He’s an amazing young man off the court as well. The Shockers hit a grand slam here.”
