Aidan Igiehon visits Louisville, St. John’s up next

By ADAM ZAGORIA

Aidan Igiehon, the 6-foot-10 center from Lawrence Woodmere (NY) Academy and the Team Rio AAU program, took his second official visit to Louisville this weekend and will next take one to St. John’s the weekend of Oct. 5.

St. John’s head coach Chris Mullin is expected to see Igiehon on Tuesday at Woodmere.

Igiehon previously visited Oregon and may still take an official to Kentucky, which is in need of bigs for 2019.

Meantime, Louisville coach Chris Mack and St. John’s assistant Matt Abdelmassih both visited Igiehon’s mother in her native Ireland. Louisville assistant Luke Murray then was at Woodmere last week, as was Oregon’s Dana Altman.

Louisville already has a strong 2019 class featuring point guard David Johnson, shooting guards Samuell Williamson and Josh Nickelberry, small forward Jaelyn Withers and power forward Quinn Slazinski. The Cards would love to add Igiehon to the group.

Lawrence Woodmere coach Jeff Weiss compares Igiehon’s body type to a young Amar’e Stoudemire or Dwight Howard.

“His upside and his physicality is unbelievable,” he said. “He’s got muscles on top of muscles and he’s very athletic. He jumps, runs, really athletic and his skillset is is pretty good for a guy that size. He’s big and strong. I compare him physically to Dwight Howard and Amar’e Stoudemire when they came out of high school.

“I think Aidan’s upside his enormous and if you know him, he’s a wonderful kid,” Weiss said.
