Class of 2019 standout Matthew Hurt hosting a string of blue bloods for home visits

By ADAM ZAGORIA

Matthew Hurt, the 6-foot-9 Class of 2019 forward from John Marshall (MN) High, will host three of the six active Hall of Fame coaches for home visits on Sunday.

Hurt on Sunday hosts Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski, Kansas coach Bill Self and Kentucky coach John Calipari in that order.

Duke is first in the door on Sunday morning. Kansas has home visits Sunday with Hurt and 2019 Hopkins (MN) power forward Zeke Nnaji, Hurt’s D-1 Minnesota teammate. Kentucky will be coming off hosting James Wiseman for an official visit, and will then head to New York and New Jersey to see Khalil Whitney, Aidan Igiehon and Scottie Lewis.

Hurt hosts more legendary coaches next week.

North Carolina’s Roy Williams, Minnesota’s Richard Pitino and Villanova’s Jay Wright are expected Monday.

Memphis Penny Hardaway gets his chance on Wednesday, with Indiana’s Archie Miller due in Sept. 17.

Hurt hosted many of these same schools last April, and all of these schools watched him over the summer, where he won a gold medal with the USA U18 team which was coached by Self.  Hurt also averaged 17.1 points and 6.1 rebounds on the Adidas circuit with D1 Minnesota.

In the spring, Hurt broke down each visit he’s already had:

Duke: “Their message is I can fit in their program really well. They’re going to use me the right way, so that’s a big main point.”

North Carolina: “North Carolina is the same way. They would use me in pick-and-roll situations and try to be a mismatch nightmare.”

Kansas: “They said they would use me as a guard, really. They said I should focus on getting better handles and getting stronger. They would use me as a guard because they think I can 2, 3, 4s.”

Kentucky: “Kentucky, the way I could develop there is pretty special. They said they need guys that can shoot the ball and that’s why they’re recruiting me. They said I could fit well in their program, too.”

Hurt currently has no official visits planned and it remains unclear when he will commit. It could happen during the November signing period, but may also extend into the spring.
