The biggest game in Las Vegas this week won’t be one with a championship at stake.
Instead, a Showcase Game on Thursday that is set to feature Class of 2019 stars James Wiseman, Trendon Watford, Chandler Lawson, Kira Lewis and Matthew Hurt could draw a huge crowd of college coaches. The game is set for 5:20 p.m. local time at Findlay Prep as part of the Las Vegas Summer Showcase.
“The D1 Minnesota/Hoop City game should pull in 60-70 coaches all by itself,” said Richard Hurt, Matthew’s father and a director with the Minnesota club.
Matthew Hurt is the star of D1 Minnesota, while Hoop City picked up Wiseman, Lawson and Watford after the Peach Jam to join the Memphis-based club.
The 7-foot Wiseman is ranked No. 1 in the 2019 ESPN 60 and has said Kentucky and Memphis are his top two options.
The 6-8 Hurt is ranked No. 6 by ESPN and is being courted by a Who’s Who of blue bloods, including Duke, North Carolina, Kansas, Kentucky, Indiana and UCLA, along with Memphis.
The 6-8 Watford is ranked No. 17 and is being courted by Alabama and Memphis, among others, but also has interest from UCLA and USC.
The 6-8 Lawson is ranked No. 47 and is being courted by Kansas, Florida and Georgia Tech, among others.
“They’ve got some players,” Richard Hurt said.
