North Carolina, Louisville, Oregon, Michigan, Villanova among schools to watch Cole Anthony at Combine

By ADAM ZAGORIA

Several schools in hot pursuit of Class of 2019 point guard Cole Anthony traveled to the PSA Cardinals/NY Jayhawks Combine at the Westtown School in West Chester, Pa., on Sunday.

North Carolina’s Roy Williams, Louisville’s Chris Mack, Oregon’s Dana Altman, Michigan’s John Beilein, Notre Dame’s Mike Brey, Georgetown’s Patrick Ewing and two assistants each from Maryland and Villanova were among those on hand for Anthony, the 6-foot-3 point guard ranked No. 2 in the Class of 2019 by Rivals.com.

Louisville’s Mack put in some mileage on Sunday, seeing both Anthony and 2019 target Kahlil Whitney of Roselle (N.J.) Catholic at Montclair State University.

Kentucky’s John Calipari and Tony Barbee were also at that venue to see Whitney.

“I don’t want to single any one college out yet, because I know I’m going to forget someone,” Anthony said at the Peach Jam when asked who was recruiting him the hardest.

Asked which of his classmates he might want to play with in college, Anthony listed Kentucky commit Tyrese Maxey and big man Armando Bacot, forward Matthew Hurt and guard Bryan Antoine, all of whom are uncommitted.

“I love Matthew Hurt’s game, I love Bryan Antoine’s game,” he said. “Armando Bacot, Tyrese Maxey.”

He figures to hone in on his recruitment next month, as well as picking his next high school stop.

“Me and my dad will probably start to to lock in that after the summer’s over, probably mid-August,” he said. “I’ll be staying with him for a little while in Florida. We’ll probably sit down and really start to talk about it then.”
