Diante Smith to Alabama

By JACOB POLACHECK

Diante Smith, the 6-foot-6 small forward from Choctawhatchee (FL) High School, announced his commitment to Alabama on Wednesday via Twitter.

“Without further notice, I will be committing to the University of Alabama,” said Smith in a video released via Twitter. “Lastly, I would like to thank my family for all the sacrifices and helping me become who I am today.”

According to 247Sports, Smith is ranked as the No. 213 overall player in the Class of 2019 and the No. 15 player from the state of Florida. He is the first commit in the Crimson Tide’s 2019 class.

“I like their playing style and the way coach Avery Johnson coaches,” Smith told Rivals Wednesday. “When I went on the unofficial visit there, it just felt like home. My dad is a big LSU fan and for him to love ‘Bama and coach Avery, it means a lot.”

Smith chose Alabama over schools such as Auburn, Cincinnati, Dayton, Florida, Florida Gulf Coast, Iowa State, Kansas State, LSU, Miami, Seton Hall, and St. John’s, among others. He took an unofficial visit to Alabama last month (June 18).
