Emmitt Williams, the high-flying, five-star forward from Oak Ridge (FL), has committed to LSU, he announced Friday morning. Williams took an official visit to Baton Rouge on Oct. 12.
“I am happy to announce that I will be attending Louisiana State University for my college career,” Williams said.
Williams chose the Tigers over Florida and Oregon. Williams was scheduled to take a visit to Gainesville this weekend, which now doesn’t seem to be the case.
A former football player who looks like a middle linebacker, Williams only started playing organized basketball in middle school and said at the Peach Jam last July he “didn’t start to get serious until two years ago.”
Williams has high aspirations going forward.
“I wanna be that kid that brings that motor to the team, gets everybody on their feet and makes sure everybody is ready to play,” he said at Peach Jam. “I wanna be that guy with the motor on the court. I wanna guard every position on the court, from 1 through the 5. The more people I can guard, the better player I am.”
Williams is the fourth addition to Will Wade’s 2018 recruiting class along with fellow five-star big man Naz Reid and four-stars Ja’Vonte Smart and Darius Days. The 6-foot-11 Reid is expected to be a one-and-done.
According to 247Sports, Williams is the No. 24 player in the 2018 class and the No. 8 prospect at his position.
