Villanova’s Phil Booth Sidelined With Broken Hand

By SEAN BOCK

Villanova has seen two of its key players – Collin Gillispie and Jermaine Samuels – go down with broken hands this season and now another Wildcat will miss some action with the same injury.

Phil Booth, a 6-foot-3 redshirt junior, fractured a bone in his right hand, which also happens to be his shooting hand. Booth is averaging 11.6 points, 3.3 boards, and 3.2 assists while shooting 42 percent from three on the season.

“All of us are disappointed for Phil,” Villanova head coach Jay Wright said in a release. “He is one of our captains and the respect for him among his teammates is off the charts. Phil is as mentally tough a player as we have had in our program. We know he’ll come back better and stronger from this.”

The Wildcats are 19-1 (6-1 Big East) on the season and are coming off an 89-69 home victory over Providence on Jan. 23. Villanova’s next contest will be on the road at Marquette on Jan. 28.
