CHICAGO — Duke star freshman forward Marvin Bagley missed the second half of the Champions Classic after getting poked in the right eye by sophomore Javin DeLaurier in the first half.
Without him, Grayson Allen went off for a career-high 37 points and No. 1 Duke handled No. 2 Michigan State, 88-81, at United Center. Trevon Duval added 17 points, 10 assists and 6 steals. Bagley had 4 points and 6 rebounds in 10 minutes before exiting.
“His eye was starting to shut,” Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said. “At first he had a hard time seeing out of the eye. It’s scratched. I could see it when he was on the floor, like it was red.
“Marvin should be fine for the next game,” he added. “It was a scratch under his eye, but I’m not too concerned.”

Without him, Michigan State went on a 14-3 run, but Duval, Allen and the Blue Devils were too much down the stretch.
Bagley III is a projected top-3 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft along with Missouri’s Michael Porter Jr. and Real Madrid’s Luka Doncic.
Some 75 NBA personnel were on hand to watch the game.
Kansas’ freshman forward Billy Preston will also be sidelined in the Champions Classic matchup vs. Kentucky. Preston was involved in a single car accident, and the incident is still under investigation, according to the school.
