Kenny Nwuba to UCLA

Kenneth Nwuba, the 6-foot-11 power forward from Huntington (W.V.) Prep, has committed to UCLA.

Nwuba also considered Maryland and Baylor, but cancelled a recent visit to Maryland.

“UCLA loses three post players and there is an opportunity for immediate playing time at a historic Blue Blood school under under a legendary coach and staff, MBA coach Omhar Carter, told ZAGSBLOG “At 6-11 with a 44-inch vertical and high skill set, Kenneth feels that he brings another dimension to what’s already a powerhouse.”

Nwuba joins shooting guards Jules Bernard and David Singleton III in coach Steve Alford’s 2018 class. They remain in the mix for several players, including point guard Darius Garland, power forwards Jordan Brown and Kevin Zhang and centers Moses Brown and Bryan Penn-Johnson. Garland visited officially last weekend.

Alford’s staff has also landed two 2019 pledges in point guards LaMelo Ball and Grant Sherfield.

“He’s a great defender/rebounder with an underrated offensive game,” Huntington Prep coach Arkell Bruce said. “Physically and athletically he’s ready to play.”

“He likes their playing style and he will fit with their dynamic,” added Bruce. “He brings elite athleticism with great shot blocking and rebounding prowess.”

Nwuba committed to UCLA on the same day that three UCLA players, including freshman guard LiAngelo Ball, were arrested in China on shoplifting charges. UCLA faces Georgia Tech in the season-opener for both teams on Friday in Shanghai.
