Luguentz Dort to Arizona State

Luguentz Dort, the 6-foot-4 point guard from the Brookwood Elite AAU program and Athlete Institute (Ontario), committed to Arizona State on Wednesday.

Dort chose the Sun Devils over Baylor and Oregon after visiting all three schools.

“The biggest thing is point guard skills that he needs to work on,” said Nelson Osse, the Director of the PXknights basketball program. “I think Lu has all the assets. He’s big, physical, can get to the paint whenever he wants but he needs to learn how to run the point. I believe that in the next level, that’s what he lacks. He’ll have to go to a place where they allow him to make mistakes as a point guard where he could learn and I think ASU is the best place. That is where he’s going.”

Dort joins Finnish shooting guard Elias Valtonen in coach Bobby Hurley’s 2018 class. The 6-6 Valtonen committed last week.

Osse pointed out that Baylor and Oregon already had guards on the roster and “it’s all about numbers.”

“If Lu goes to ASU, he might get 30 touches at the point guard, whereas at those other spots he might get maybe 5-10 a game. And one way to learn is to make mistakes. The more you do it, the more you could learn so that’s the way we see it.”
