2018 forward Isaiah Mucius talks Xavier visit

Isaiah Mucius, the 6-foot-8, 190-pound small forward from Brewster (NH) Academy and the PSA Cardinals, took his first official visit to Xavier this past weekend along with fellow Class of 2018 standouts David McCormack and Noah Locke.

“Yeah, me, Noah and David hung out a good majority of our visit,” Mucius said Monday. “It was my first time on Xavier’s campus so everything was new to me.”

Xavier sees Mucius as a logical fit to help replace some departing stars.

“Their message was with JP Macura and Trevon Bluiett leaving, it was an opportunity for me to step in and play right away,” he said.

Matt Mucius, the player’s father, also made the trip.

“Isaiah really enjoyed the visit,” he said. “We got a chance to see the campus and how they would utilized Isaiah within the system. Coach [Chris] Mack and coach [Luke] Murray believe he can come and potentially start or come off the bench and play 20-25 minutes as a freshman because of his versatility and ability to guard the 3 and some 4s.”

Next up is a visit to Wake Forest this coming weekend.

“I’m taking a Wake Forest official the second week of September,” Mucius previously told D1Vision. They have a really good coaching staff with Danny Manning and Randolph Childress. Between them, they have 40-plus years in the league, so they know what they’re doing. It’s the ACC so it’s a top conference. They’re playing against the top teams in the country, night in and night out. It’s a really good up and coming program.”

Matt Mucius said they have no list as of now but the only official set at this stage are Xavier and Wake Forst.

“We’re looking to make a decision before the Brewster season starts.”

Meantime, the 6-4 Locke plans to visit Florida and Michigan State before announcing his plans.

The 6-10 McCormack has taken officials to N.C. State and Xavier and still plans to take one to Kansas.

N.C. State coach Kevin Keatts and Oklahoma State coach Mike Boynton are both expected at Oak Hill Academy on Monday for McCormack.

“He had a great visit [to Kansas],” Oak Hill Academy coach Steve Smith said last week on The 4 Quarters Podcast. “He went unofficial to Kansas but he’s going to go back there officially. He visited N.C. State last weekend. He’s visiting Xavier, Kansas and he has visits supposedly for Duke and UCLA if gets that far. I don’t know if he’ll go past September, he’s getting kind of antsy and I think he likes a couple schools.”
