Keldon Johnson visits Texas, N.C. State up next

Keldon Johnson, the 6-foot-6, 215-pound small forward from Oak Hill Academy (VA), will visit N.C. State this weekend following his recent visit to Texas.

“He was supposed to visit Florida State this weekend but because of the weather he’s going to go to N.C. State instead,” Oak Hill coach Steve Smith said on The 4 Quarters Podcast. “They’re worried about the Hurricane [Irma] hitting Florida so they’re going to flip-flop. He’s going to go to N.C. State this weekend and then Florida State the following weekend.

“He’s also got Maryland and Kentucky on his list, those are his five schools.”

Meantime, the Texas visit went very well.

“He had a real good visit,” He was a little worried when he left because his family wants him to play closer to home but I think after the visit that’s all kind of changed. I think everybody agreed that they liked it, so Texas is very much in the picture now.”

As for his upside, Smith said he’s an NBA prospect.

“He’s got great size, he’s a wing player, he’s about 6-6, 6-7, good body, weighs about 215 right now,” Smith said. “We’re trying to get him down to about 205. We’re working with him on that. He’s an NBA prospect. he’s that kind of player. He’s very skilled, he’s a great passer. He’s long, he defends, he rebounds. He’s a great offensive rebounder and then he can score the ball as well as any wing in the country so he’s got a great upside. I’ll be shocked if he doesn’t play for money one day.”

Manny Bates, the 6-9 power forward from Fayetteville (N.C.) Jack Britt, will also visit N.C. State this weekend.

Bates has already visited Georgetown and has visits slated for South Carolina (Sept. 15) and Georgia Tech (Sept. 22)
