Former Seton Hall signee Darnell Brodie is doing a postgraduate year at Montverde (FL) Academy and won’t enroll at Seton Hall this season.
The 6-foot-10, 250-pound forward from Newark East Side had signed his National Letter of Intent to attend Seton Hall, but instead will play for Kevin Boyle Jr. on Montverde’s prep team.
Brodie will be free to sign elsewhere beginning next season, but said he remains committed to the Pirates.
“I came down here to grind and get better,” he told ZAGSBLOG. “Yes, I’m still going to Seton Hall.”
“Darnell has incredible size and strength,” Boyle Jr. told ZAGSBLOG. “For a player with his size he has surprising mobility and touch on jumpers and shots near the rim. He has been around good coaching and teaching but doesn’t have the same years and years of experience as other kids his age. He has the talent and drive to compete with anyone and I hope we can help expedite his development and turn him into an immediate impact player at the college level.”

Meantime, Seton Hall now has an open scholarship and has been linked to transferring Syracuse forward Taurean Thompson, who opted to withdraw from Syracuse in late August.
Thompson initially chose Syracuse over Seton Hall and Michigan State.
Meantime, Seton Hall’s freshmen class includes point guard Jordan Walker, shooting guard Myles Cale and power forward Sandro Mamukelashvili.
