Eric Ayala will remain in the Class of 2018 and transfer to the postgrad team at Bradenton (FL) IMG Academy and play for head coach John Mahoney.
The 6-foot-5, 195-pound combo guard from the WE-R1 AAU program will transfer from Putnam Science Academy (CT) for his final season, WE-RI coach Terrell Myers told ZAGSBLOG. He had flirted with the idea of going to college in 2017.
“Eric is becoming a complete player,” Mahoney said. “His shooting range has improved and he has the ability to create off the dribble and can get to the rim.
“With Anfernee Simon and Eric I think we should a pretty good guard duo. They will make me a smart coach.”
Ayala is also now working with a top nine schools of Syracuse, Oregon, Miami, Georgetown, Indiana, Ohio State, LSU, Arizona and Maryland, Myers said.
“I just feel like I got a better opportunity in 2018 as far as trying to establish myself,” he told ZAGSBLOG this spring. “I just want to keep getting better. I’m not in a rush to go to college and rush the process.”
