On Friday afternoon, 2020 five-star shooting guard Kyree Walker from Hillcrest (AZ) Prep made it official that he’d be taking his talents to Arizona State to play for the Sun Devils and head coach Bobby Hurley.
According to ESPN, Walker is the 4th overall player in the ESPN25 rankings for the class of 2020 and is the first from the list to announce where they’d play college ball.
“I’ll help the program with my passing,” said Walker. “They have an Ohio State transfer in Mickey Mitchell, and that’s how I see myself. I’m a passer. I can score at will anytime I want to, but I want to get my teammates involved.”
Walker is playing on the Nike EYBL Circuit this summer with the Oakland Soldiers who have a 9-7 record and will be participating in the Peach Jam this July. In those 16 games, Walker averaged 8.4 points, 3.0 assists, and 2.6 rebounds per contest.
“Kyree Walker is a very dynamic and explosive athlete,” Hillcrest Head Coach Kyle Weaver told D1VISION. “He has a great skill set and can score from all three levels on the floor. He’s a five-star player but most of all he is a leader.”
In addition to Arizona State, Walker has also received a scholarship from Arizona.
“I chose ASU because it was a family decision,” Walker told Scout. “I feel like I can go there, play my first year, and do something great for their program.”
Walker is the first commit in the 2018, 2019, and 2020 classes for Arizona State.
