Chicago Bulls waive Rajon Rondo

By SEAN BOCK

The Chicago Bulls waived former all-star point guard Rajon Rondo on Friday afternoon, the Bulls’ front office confirmed.

In his first and only season with the Bulls, Rondo averaged 7.8 points, 6.7 assists, and 26.7 minutes in 69 games. The Bulls finished 41-41 this past season which was good enough for the eighth seed in the East before eventually losing in the first round of the playoffs to the Boston Celtics in seven games after being up 2-0 in the series

While trade talks have been circling around Rondo throughout the entire season, a major motive behind this move was to create roster room for younger guards like Cameron Payne, Jerian Grant, and Kris Dunn, who the Bulls picked up in the Jimmy Butler deal to Minnesota, along with Zach Lavine and the 7th overall pick in Lauri Markkanen.

In addition, the Bulls also waived Isaiah Cannan, a former Murray State star who signed with the Bulls last summer as well. Cannan averaged 4.6 points per game in his lone season in Chicago.
