Syracuse Adds USF Grad Transfer Geno Thorpe

Syracuse on Friday got a commitment from South Florida graduate transfer Geno Thorpe, who will suit up for the 2017-18 season.

The 6-foot-4 Thorpe, who also spent two years at Penn State, averaged 15.1 points and 4.6 assists last season for the Bulls.

“It’s official,” Thorpe told Syracuse.com. “I’m going to do my fifth-year at Syracuse.”

Thorpe can play both guard positions and will help complement the team’s returning backcourt players.

“He was very honest and open with me,” Thorpe said of coach Jim Boeheim. “It’s a team-oriented program. It’s only about winning. My role will be to play both guard spots along with Frank (Howard), Tyus (Battle) and Howard (Washington).”

A year ago, Syracuse added grad transfers John Gillon and Andrew White III, both of whom played key roles for an Orange team that missed the NCAA Tournament.

In addition to Thorpe, Syracuse adds Washington, forwards Oshae Brissett and Marek Dolezaj and big man Bourama Sidibe.
