Duke made a late addition to its 2017 recruiting class on Monday night with the addition of Jordan Goldwire.
The 6-foot-2 shooting guard from Norcross (GA) was headed to Eastern Kentucky when Duke became involved and he took a visit. He averaged 12 points and about 7 assists last season.
“I was going to commit to Eastern Kentucky, but Duke showed interest recently, and it was something I couldn’t pass up,” Goldwire, who took official visits to Eastern Kentucky and Mercer, told ESPN.
Duke returns guard Grayson Allen and brings in freshman shooting guard Gary Trent Jr. Freshman point guard Frank Jackson is testing the NBA Draft waters. Duke remains in the mix for five-star point guard Trevon Duval, as well as small forward Kevin Knox and big man Mohamed Bamba. Knox is expected to announce later this week.
“They didn’t promise me anything,” Goldwire told ESPN. “They said they needed another ball handler who would be able to run the second group. It’s a great opportunity for me.”
