UNLV Lands Top 15 Recruit Brandon McCoy

Brandon McCoy, the 6-foot-11 power forward from Cathedral Catholic (CA) High School, committed to UNLV last Tuesday, giving coach Marvin Menzies a huge building block for the future.

Ranked the No. 15 player in the 2017 ESPN 100, McCoy chose the Runnin’ Rebels over San Diego State, Oregon, Michigan State, and Arizona.

“Coach Marvin Menzies is a great dude, a great coach,” McCoy told me at the recent Jordan Brand Classic where he went for 15 points and 13 rebounds. “He produces some NBA players. That’s what nobody really knows about it, but he did produce some NBA players and it’s becoming a program. If I go there maybe I can bring them back to the real Runnin’ Rebels, back in the ’90s when they were the No. 1 team in the nation.”

On Wednesday, Menzies added to his blockbuster class by adding junior college star Shakur Juiston and Class of 2017 point guard Amauri Hardy to a class that already included point guard Jay Green, shooting guard Tervell Beck and fellow big man Chiekh Mbacke Diong.
