Will Wade was named the new LSU coach on Monday, the school announced.
The news was first reported by ESPN.
The former VCU coach agreed to a six-year deal worth in the neighborhood of $12 million, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reported.
He had also reportedly been linked to the Clemson job before that school announced Brad Brownell would return for 2017-18.
Wade, 34, went 51-20 in two seasons at VCU, going to the NCAA Tournament both years. He is 91-45 in four years at Chattanooga and VCU.
A former Shaka Smart assistant at VCU, Wade replaces Johnny Jones who was officially fired on March 10 after LSU finished 10-21 with 15 straight losses.
