Tremont Waters in Holding Pattern Until Released From Georgetown

Tremont Waters is awaiting his release from Georgetown and will then pursue his options going forward, his father told ZAGSBLOG.

“There are no schools that are on the table right now because we’re in the process of getting our release,” Ed Waters said Monday by phone. “That should be any second now. But until we do that, we’re not able to deal with anyone.”

Ranked the No. 33 player in the Class of 2017 out of Notre Dame (CT) High School, the 5-foot-9 Waters was the top commit for the Hoyas and embattled coach John Thompson III.

After finishing the 2016-17 season at 14-18 (5-13 Big East) Thompson III has faced criticism about the job he’s done at what was once a storied program.

Before committing to Georgetown, Waters listed UConn, Duke, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, and Yale.

ESPN reported via Twitter Monday that Duke and Syracuse were expected to be involved, but multiple sources told ZAGSBLOG that Duke is primarily focused on Trevon Duval as its top option at point guard. The 6-3 Duval out of Bradenton (FL) IMG Academy is considering Duke, Kansas, Arizona, Baylor and Seton Hall, and finished up his last visit to Seton Hall last week during the Big East Tournament.

Syracuse would seem like a possibility for Waters since they are in need of a Class of 2017 point guard. They recently offered Athlete Institute point guard Howard Washington, a former Butler commit, as first reported by ZAGSBLOG.

The Orange are also involved for Putnam Science Academy (CT) point guard Eric Ayala, who is considering reclassifying to 2017 from 2018.

Meantime, several of the other schools originally on Waters’ list could also get involved, including Yale, UConn, Indiana and Kansas

“In all fairness to [Georgetown] and also the family, I just want to deal with the process first and then maybe we can speak on things afterwards,” Ed Waters said.
