Xavier coach Chris Mack says Trevon Bluiett is “day-to-day” with an ankle injury that caused him to miss Wednesday’s loss at Providence.
“As far as Trevon, he’s really day-to-day,” Mack said Thursday on The 4 Quarters Podcast. “Like most guys with a sprained ankle, the pain’s just gotta subside. He’s gotta get the swelling out. It gets better each day. To the point where he can play on Saturday [at Marquette], I’m really not sure. But we’re gonna keep him with the trainers 24/7 in hopes that we can get him back sooner rather than later.”
The 6-foot-6 Bluiett is averaging 17.9 points and 5.8 rebounds for the Musketeers.
Xavier is 18-8, 8-5 in the Big East and 3-2 since losing star point guard Edmond Sumner to an ACL injury against St. John’s Jan. 29 at Madison Square Garden. That thrust freshman Quentin Goodin into a much larger role.
“Goodin’s got a lot on his shoulders for a freshman,” Mack said. “He hasn’t played the way we feel he’s capable of playing but he’s also playing a lot of minutes. There’s a lot more added responsibility on his shoulders. Like most guys, the more experience you get, hopefully you’re going to be better because of it.
“We’re just at a critical point in everybody’s season as we head down the home stretch of conference play where you’re trying to play for a seed in the Big East Tournament and you’re trying to play for the best standings you can get in the league.”
