Chris Smith to UCLA

Chris Smith, the 6-foot-9 small forward from Huntington Prep (WV) School, committed to UCLA on Saturday, according to Scout.com.

“I just felt like I fit in their play style,” Smith told Scout. “I talked to their coaches and I talked to them about my role on the team next year and things like that. Just L.A. and being out there and away from home, I just feel like I fit better on their team. I just know that L.A. is where I want to be,”

Smith announced in January that he would reclassify from the 2018 class to 2017. He joins Kris WilkesJaylen Hands, Jalen Hill, Cody Riley, and Liangelo Ball as the sixth commit in the Bruins’ 2017 class.

Smith took his only official visit to UCLA this week and attended their big win over Oregon on Thursday. He chose UCLA over Oregon and TCU.

“I’ve been working on my list for a while,” said Smith. ” I was really torn between going back home to TCU or staying away from home and going to UCLA. I went on the visit and I’d been to TCU and I just felt like UCLA was the better fit.”

Huntington Prep coach Arkell Bruce told ZAGSBLOG: “Chris is a jack-of-all-trades type of player. He’s tremendously skilled at 6-9. While most are trying to be a three, that’s what he is. He’s extremely intelligent and he has a chance to make money playing ball.”
