St. Patrick’s Snaps St. Anthony’s 41-Game Winning Streak

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Jahvon Quinerly and Luther Muhammad made it 2-0 for the Jersey Boys on Saturday.
The 6-foot-1 Quinerly went for 25 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists en route to game MVP honors as Hudson Catholic beat Charles Bassey and St. Anthony (TX), 62-53, to help the New Jersey schools go 2-0 on the day at the Hoophall Classic. Earlier, Roselle (N.J.) Catholic beat Weaver (TX).
The 6-5 Muhammad also had a strong game in the win, going for 24 points, 2 rebounds and 2 steals.
“I feel like Jersey has the toughest basketball in the country, that’s just my opinion,” Quinerly said.

Three other Garden State teams — Blair Academy, St. Anthony’s and The Patrick School — will also play at the Hoophall this weekend.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Naz Reid messed around and got a triple-double during the first game at the Hoophall Classic on Saturday afternoon.
The 6-foot-11 Roselle Catholic junior went for 24 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists as the Lions handled Weaver (TX), 96-76, at Blake Arena. Several of his dunks drew oohs and aahs from the crowd.

Temple-bound senior guard Nate Pierre-Louis finished with 27 points, while his brother Josh tallied 11.
“He’s ridiculous,” Nate said of Reid. “He’s 6-11, people forget that he’s 6-11 in a guard’s body. He’s a guard in my opinion. He just played really well today.”
Kansas has landed Arizona State transfer Sam Cunliffe.
Cunliffe, a 6-foot-6, 200-pound wing from Seattle, Washington, joined the Kansas team on Jan. 12 and will be able to practice with the team immediately and will be eligible following the fall 2017 semester.
“We’d seen Sam play in high school and thought he was a great prospect,” Kansas coach Bill Self said of Cutliffe who went to Rainier Beach High School in Seattle. “Sam is a guy that is very athletic and can really shoot the basketball. He will be a player that will impact our program the day he becomes eligible. A lot of people view the year sitting out as a negative but I think Sam is looking at it as a positive; to come in here, get acclimated and practice against some really good players. He wants to get better and will have an impact on our program that enhances our opportunity to have a good team next year.”
